Choosing brick colours for your Melbourne home

Brick is permanent, so the colour is a decision worth getting right. Here is how we steer clients.

Start with the house and the street

Look at the roof, the windows and the homes around you. A colour that fights the roofline or sticks out on the street rarely ages well.

The main families

  • Reds and warm browns: classic, forgiving, timeless.
  • Charcoals and blacks: modern and bold, though they show less texture and can read flat.
  • Whites, creams and greys: clean and contemporary, but lighter bricks show dirt and efflorescence more.

Mortar changes everything

The joint colour shifts the whole look. A light mortar lifts a dark brick; a matching mortar makes the wall read as one mass. Always look at a sample panel, not a single brick.

Our advice

Get a few real bricks, lay a small sample panel with the actual mortar, and look at it in morning and afternoon light before you commit. We will build you one.
