Brickwork is one of the larger trades on a new build. Here is what actually moves the number, without the sales talk.
The big drivers
- Size: total wall area is the headline figure. More house, more brick.
- Single or double brick: double-brick construction roughly doubles the brickwork.
- Brick choice: commons are cheapest, face bricks more, recycled and specialty bricks more again.
- Two storeys: height means scaffold and slower laying.
- Detail: arches, feature panels, special bonds and lots of openings all add labour.
- Site and access: a tight or sloping block slows the job.
Why we do not quote a home sight unseen
Every plan is different. A firm price comes from the drawings and a look at the site, not a number off the internet.
